When can I see the archaeological remains of the Middle Stone Age site?


The Culverwell Mesolithic Site near Portland Bill is open to visitors from May to end of August

Normal open days are 2 - 4:30 (last time for visit) on the first Sunday of May, June, July and August plus Bank Holiday Mondays during these months and an extra open day during Festival of Archaeology

On Portland Bill Road on right hand side about halfway between Southwell Village and Portland Bill. Free on site parking for duration of your visit

This is a live dig site

We normally dig on Mondays from 10:30 - 3 May through September
Admission to Culverwell and Reap Lane is free but donations are welcomed to help with the maintenance costs.

We now have a printed site visitor guide available for Culverwell to purchase to enhance your visit

Some open days may have hands on activities suitable for adults and children or demonstrations
